My nickname is Donz. I'm an old TurboPascal and Clarion programmer. It looks like PHP will be quite familiar to me.
I'm new to CMS systems and Drupal. I tried phpwebsite but quickly decided on Drupal on after some research.
Goals: I need to begin by understanding Drupal terminiology and concepts. (What is the best reference book (to buy) on Drupal?). The online doumentation seems overly verbose. I find it difficut to drill down to details.
Week1 goals:
1. Learn what nodes, themes and blocks are. (Learn the Drupal Way?)
2. Define a site (menu) structure and try to create it with Drupal (I am hosted on BlueHost).
3. Upload some content and experiment with the controls available to render (conrol the presentation of) the content.
4. Using the knowledge gained in my initial rendering experiences, refine the menu structure and add content. Build the site to the extent possible within the limits of my knowledge level.
5. Add a forum and test its functionality. Assess moderator controls.
6. Add a personal blog for my notes and to document my progress and plans.
7. Plan next steps and define goals for Week2 and subsequent periods..

I found out that themes are quirte complex (for me). So, my immediate goal is to get a site running on,the defaults. But I am too dense or something.
Where can I go for guidance?
Today, I am still trying to figure out how Drupal Admin menus work. I'm hosted on Bluehost and am using Drual 5.1.
I have some top level munus etablished but am having troubld with the next level down. I don't know what to do next?
Ns. Is somebody suposed to respond to my posts here?
